Australian Treasury Bonds (including Green Treasury Bonds) and Treasury Indexed Bonds are only issued by the Australian Government and traded through authorised platforms. If you receive an unsolicited offer, high-return guarantee, or a request for personal details, it could be a scam. The Australian Government (including the Australian Office of Financial Management) will never contact you directly with Australian Government Bond investment offers.

If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, report it to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). You can also report cyber-related scams to the Australian Cyber Security Centre via ReportCyber.

Australian Government Bond Investment Scam

There have been multiple scams involving fake Australian Government Bond investment offers, targeting people looking to invest in bonds.

Anyone dealing in bonds or other financial products must hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), which authorises them to conduct these activities legally.

ASIC has issued a warning about these scams and how to protect yourself. Additionally, ASIC has alerted investors to a rise in stolen shares due to identity theft, with guidance on how to stay vigilant and take action if something seems suspicious.
